Anaesthesia and children

Please find below a couple of videos which might help with making your child a bit more familiar and relaxed with what to expect in relation to the anaesthetic.

If you feel your child may benefit from oral sedative medication prior to surgery due to fear or anxiety, please advise the admission staff on arrival and this can be arranged. Likewise if there is anything particular to your child, such as likes, dislikes, fears, previous experiences and so on which you think may be relevant to making the encounter as pleasant as possible, please do let us know.

A few toys or books can be taken to hospital for the pre- and post-op areas, and a favourite toy and a phone/tablet can come into the operating room and may be used during the induction process.

Fasting instructions will be provided by the hospital, however please do get in touch if you have any questions.

Click the button below for fun and useful resource - it's an interactive website which you can use to explore the hospital setting through different characters.
